This summer, from 1th July to 19th September, in the marvelous Piazza del Duomo and in the suggestive location inside the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, we will find the exhibition entitled Wonder of Love will by the Milanese artist Marco Cornini, curated by Angelo Crespi, to celebrate his thirty-four years of activity. The event was promoted by the Municipality of Pietrasanta in collaboration with the Quattro Coronati Association, produced by Franco Senesi's Liquid Art System Gallery.
The exhibition itinerary is made up of about forty works; these are typical sculptures by the artist, including some designed and produced during Corini's last stay in our magnificent town.
Marco Cornini (1966) is a sculptor of Milanese origins, trained at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera, obtaining a diploma in sculpture in 1988. Since then he has exhibited personal exhibitions in various reviews and occasions, increasing his fame more and more. to be considered today one of the most important contemporary sculptors. Like many others, the artist could not fail to be enchanted by a city of art such as Pietrasanta, choosing it as a place to stay together with his Milan and the small Lombard town of Bussero.
Cornini's works, in painted terracotta, mostly depict figures of women drawn from their own imagination, with the aim of enhancing their femininity, sensuality and sweetness. This summer, in the splendid setting of Piazza Duomo, it will be possible to admire the well-known figures of Cornini in a path where love is the undisputed protagonist. Among these sculptures, we will find "L'Abbraccio", a bronze composition that depicts two lovers hugging each other in a warm and passionate embrace, "La Meraviglia", terracotta sculpture representing two young lovers sitting on a flowery hill reminiscent of a couple of modern Adam and Eve, and “Sguardi Oltre”, also in terracotta, which reproduces a woman who touches her belly dreaming of motherhood.
The curator of the exhibition Angelo Crespi, speaking of the exhibition, explains the meaning behind the sculptures of the Milanese artist: "Marco Cornini admirably exemplifies with his works the concept contained in the title of the exhibition" Wonder of Love "in the idea that life how art is the fruit of the amazement that the highest feeling grants us, that is love in all its facets: and it does so with figures caught in the ineffable moment of wonder. Although many contemporary conceptual artists entrust their works to third parties, and do not disdain mechanical 3D modeling, and many curators are ready to criticize virtuosity and talent, it is thanks to the excellent technique that Marco Cornini reaches levels of absolute elegance and originality. Worthy follower of all those sculptors who from the Middle Ages have shaped the earth with their hands, giving it shape and substance, the greatest expert in the skilful mixture of oxides and rust and pigments, and in cooking, so as to obtain different tones and colors, incarnations and shades more suitable to the subject depicted, without renouncing the rough surface, it allows him to never lapse into an assumed sentimentality or a smooth lyricism".
Also this year, the Piazza del Duomo in Pietrasanta will come alive with a new open-air exhibition that will attract art lovers from all over Italy and beyond.
