Lo stile industriale, per una casa moderna ed essenziale

One of the most appreciated and chosen styles in recent years to furnish houses, whether it's an apartment, a loft or a modern villa, with New York vibes, is undoubtedly the industrial one: simple, but also effective and great impact, this trend stems from the idea of reusing abandoned and neglected spaces to transform them into elegant and chic spaces where you can immediately feel at home.

In reality, the idea of an industrial-type furniture began to take hold around the middle of the last century, in the glittering New York City: these are the golden years of consumerism, entertainment and mass media, of the stars of cinema and of fashion icons such as Marylin Monroe, but above all, of Pop Art. And Andy Warhol, the predominant figure of the American art scene during the Sixties, inaugurated this new contemporary style in the creation of his private studio, housed in an industrial apartment in Manhattan, known to all as “The Factory” precisely because of its resemblance to a factory, which in those years became a meeting point for all the most influential artists of the time. The industrial style was born, just like Pop Art itself, from the desire to move away from the mass and from the predominant furnishing models, with the aim of saving and recycling, giving a new life to objects and furniture obtained from the industrial world, to counteract the phenomenon of consumerism and excessive production.

The idea behind industrial furniture is to recover abandoned locations and spaces to make them welcoming, effective and comfortable, through careful aesthetic research: to do this, raw materials such as resin, iron, brass, concrete and bricks are preferred. , robust materials that are usually found in workshops or warehouses. In an industrial-style house it is easy to find objects borrowed from the world of industries, such as wooden pallets used for the transport of goods, re-invented and placed in a new context, transformed into shelves, bookcases, or even sofas, or as barrels for the transport of liquids, in wood or metal, reused as bedside tables. The choice of materials and furnishing accessories is never accidental, even if the industrial style somehow tries to recreate a sort of "fake disorder" in the arrangement of objects, actually carefully studied and researched.

A type of furniture that looks to a new contemporary aesthetic form, which uses objects originally designed for industrial use relocated in a completely foreign environment.

As for the colors, dark, almost shadowy, and deep tones are preferred: green light for black, gray, dark brown, bottle green and metallic colors. Usually the lines are neutral and the patterns are totally absent, except for the wallpaper which sometimes offers geometric patterns or which reproduces the appearance of the external walls with exposed bricks.

An inevitable element in an industrial home is wood, especially the more resistant one such as solid wood, often worked to give it an “aged” and lived-in look, as if it had been worn down by time. The light in an industrial-style house must not be lacking, but it must still be soft and not too intrusive, creating shaded areas and concentrating in certain points. Enter from the large, high windows that often reach the ceiling, but also from large work lamps. practical and simple, often very showy. Another interesting feature of the industrial style - which you may like or not - are the exposed pipes and iron pillars, elements that are often hidden because they are considered unsightly and are now displayed and enhanced: even a plumbing system can become a fascinating piece of furniture!
