Pietrasanta is now known nationally and internationally for its open-air exhibitions that attract visitors and tourists from all over the world. This summer, from 17 June to 17 September, it will be possible to admire the work of a very important author, namely Bernard Bezzina, who will exhibit a large group of works in the most symbolic places of the town: Piazza del Duomo, Piazza Carducci, Church of Sant'Agostino and its Cloister.
Bezzina had already been a guest of an exhibition in Piazza del Duomo in 2013 and 2014, when he took part in the exhibition entitled "Homo Faber".
Bezzina, born in Tunis in 1956 is a sculptor of French nationality who lives between the South of France, where he owns a workshop totally immersed in nature near Toulon, and Italy. He approaches art thanks to his mother, a teacher, who gives him the passion for drawing. One of the most important events for his artistic growth and career was the meeting with Jean-Louis Masurel, which took place in 1996, who will communicate his intellectual vision of art to Bezzina, while the knowledge of the founder Jean Guyot pushed him later to deepen his work as a sculptor. It was from there that he came into contact with the major Italian foundries, including Pietrasanta which will become a fundamental place for him: here he performed various works at the Studio Associated Laboratories of Giorgi and Castellari, at the Versiliese Foundry and the Versiliese Bottega.
In 2012 Bezzina met Dominique Hurtebize, who on the occasion of that year's edition of "Art Élysée", decided to exhibit Bezzina's work: what most struck Hurtebize about his art was the principle of "DIVITION" which leads the 'artist researching materials that are deconstructed and reinterpreted, giving them a new light, a new life. His first solo exhibition dates back to 2014, held in the Salle Gaveau in Paris.
The exhibition that we will have the honor and the pleasure of appreciating as we stroll through Pietrasanta's square bears the title of “Fragilità”, the third series that characterizes Bezzina's work (in addition to “Frammentazione” and “Forza”). More than twenty years of Bezzina's artistic creation will be exhibited. The theme of fragility is reflected in our contemporary times and is opposed to the creative power of art: the human being is immensely fragile in the face of the immensity of the world. The main materials of his exhibition will be bronze, wood and paper. The concept of Division, understood as deconstruction, allows the raw material to be decomposed, destroyed, and then recreated.
